About Kristen
I work with individuals and couples who can recognize the pattern they are caught in but still find themselves back inside it when the pressure rises. You may understand why you shut down, become anxious, or pursue reassurance, yet that insight offers very little protection in the moment when the nervous system takes over.
My role is to help us slow that sequence down without losing sight of the real relationship or situation in which it occurs. I pay close attention to attachment history and to the physical signs that tell us protection is becoming active, because those details often explain why a response that seems disproportionate now once made complete sense.
I am supportive, but I am also direct. I will name the dynamic I see rather than offering reassurance that leaves the pattern untouched, and I will be transparent about the direction of the work so that therapy remains collaborative rather than mysterious. The aim is to help insight become something you can use while the reaction is happening, not only something you can explain afterwards.
Kristen's therapeutic philosophy
My work is relational, attachment-based, and trauma-informed. With individuals, we examine the connection between early relational experience, current nervous-system responses, and the ways you protect yourself when closeness or uncertainty feels threatening.
With couples, I focus on the cycle between partners rather than reducing the problem to one person's behaviour. We slow recent interactions down, identify the more vulnerable need beneath criticism or withdrawal, and practise responding before the familiar sequence determines the ending.
