Anxiety & Burnout

KDW Counselling & Consulting provides anxiety and burnout therapy in London and virtually across Ontario. We help clients understand what keeps the nervous system activated and what has made genuine recovery difficult.

What This Can Feel Like

Anxiety does not always look like panic. It may be the constant rehearsal of conversations, the inability to rest without feeling guilty, or the sense that something important will be missed if you stop monitoring everything for even a moment. Burnout often develops alongside that vigilance, especially for people who remain outwardly competent while their patience, concentration, and emotional range become progressively smaller.

By the time many clients seek therapy, they have already tried sleeping more, taking a short break, or becoming better organized. Those efforts can help briefly, but they do not address the beliefs and nervous-system patterns that keep turning recovery time into another task to perform correctly.

Why Pushing Harder Stops Working

A nervous system that has spent a long time preparing for the next demand does not immediately settle because the calendar becomes quieter. Perfectionism, over-responsibility, and chronic caretaking can make rest feel unsafe or undeserved, which means the same internal pressure continues even when the external workload changes.

Burnout is not corrected by becoming more efficient at enduring an unsustainable pattern. The work involves identifying what repeatedly drains capacity and understanding why your system has treated those demands as non-negotiable.

How We Work

Therapy combines practical strategies for worry, boundaries, and nervous-system regulation with a closer look at the patterns underneath the anxiety. We may examine the thoughts that turn uncertainty into catastrophe, but we also pay attention to what happens physically when you try to slow down, disappoint someone, or leave a task unfinished.

For caregivers and healthcare professionals, this includes taking the reality of the work seriously rather than treating burnout as a personal failure to manage stress. Recovery has to account for the actual conditions you are living in.

What Change Tends to Look Like

Early progress may be less dramatic than clients expect. You may notice that a difficult email no longer occupies the entire evening, that you can feel tension rising before it becomes panic, or that a boundary can be set without spending the next day trying to undo it.

Over time, the goal is not to eliminate every anxious thought but to reduce the authority anxiety has over your decisions, while rebuilding enough capacity that daily life no longer feels like a sequence of obligations you are barely surviving.

Beginning Therapy

A free 15-minute consultation provides enough time to describe what anxiety or depletion looks like in your life and to ask how a clinician would approach it. If you are in acute crisis or your symptoms require a different level of care, we will be clear about that from the beginning.
