Sliding Scale
A sliding scale means the fee for a session is adjusted based on what you can realistically afford, rather than held at a single fixed rate. The therapist and client agree on a reduced amount that allows therapy to continue consistently without creating financial strain that undermines the work itself.
This option exists for clients who do not have extended health coverage, whose benefits have been exhausted, or whose financial circumstances would otherwise make regular sessions unsustainable. If cost is the barrier between you and consistent support, we would rather find a number that works than lose the therapeutic relationship entirely.
Our position is straightforward: everyone deserves access to therapy regardless of their financial situation. If standard fees are not realistic for you right now, raise it during your consultation and we will work something out together.
Cancellation Policy
KDW Counselling & Consulting asks for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to the full session fee.
Insurance & Extended Health
Many extended health plans in Ontario reimburse psychotherapy provided by Registered Psychotherapists and counselling provided by Registered Social Workers. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend confirming the details with your provider before your first session.
We provide detailed receipts after each session that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. Payment is collected at the time of service.
Questions to Ask Your Insurance Provider:
- Does my plan cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP)?
- Does my plan cover services provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW)?
- What is my maximum annual coverage for mental health services?
- Is there a deductible I need to meet first?

Medical Expense Tax Credit:
Therapy fees may be eligible for the medical expense tax credit, and many extended health plans reimburse services provided by Registered Psychotherapists or Registered Social Workers.
