Body Image & Eating Concerns

KDW Counselling & Consulting provides therapy for body image and eating-related concerns in London and virtually across Ontario. We address the emotional and relational function of the pattern while remaining clear about when coordinated medical or nutritional care is needed.

What This Can Feel Like

A difficult relationship with food or your body can occupy an extraordinary amount of mental space while remaining nearly invisible to other people. You may calculate, compare, avoid photographs, or spend large parts of the day negotiating with yourself about what is allowed, then appear entirely composed when someone asks how you are doing.

The exhaustion comes not only from the behaviour but from the constant internal surveillance. Even moments that should be ordinary can become organized around appearance, control, or the fear of being seen.

What the Pattern May Be Doing

Eating and body-image patterns rarely exist in isolation from the rest of a person's emotional life. Control around food may provide temporary predictability when other areas feel uncertain, while relentless focus on appearance can become a way of locating diffuse distress in something that seems concrete enough to fix.

Understanding that function does not minimize the harm. It allows us to work with the need beneath the behaviour rather than relying on shame or willpower, both of which tend to tighten the cycle.

How We Work

Therapy may include cognitive work with rigid beliefs, somatic attention to the way distress is experienced in the body, and parts-based exploration of the internal voices that demand control or punish perceived failure. The pace is careful because this territory is often closely connected to identity, safety, and long-standing methods of emotional regulation.

The aim is to reduce how much authority food and appearance have over your decisions while strengthening a more trustworthy relationship with your own internal signals.

What Sessions Are Like

Early sessions focus on understanding the pattern, its history, and its current impact without requiring you to prove that it is severe enough. We will ask direct questions about behaviour and medical risk because scope matters, but the conversation remains collaborative rather than interrogative.

Ongoing work moves between practical support for current triggers and the deeper emotional conditions that keep the pattern necessary.

Scope and Coordinated Care

More acute eating disorders can carry serious medical risk and require a coordinated team that includes medical and nutritional professionals. KDW does not replace that level of care.

When coordinated treatment is indicated, we will discuss it directly and help identify the appropriate next step rather than continuing therapy in isolation.

Beginning Therapy

A free consultation provides an opportunity to describe the concern in broad terms and ask whether the clinician's experience and the practice's level of care are appropriate for your situation.
