My name is Kristen Wilson, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor. My practice focuses on helping couples, individuals, and families improve their relationships and enhance the quality of their lives. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Victoria. Before starting my counselling career, I worked as an administrative professional in the non-profit and health research fields. I transitioned to the helping profession after coming to terms with the impact that unhealthy relationships had on myself and those closest to me. I deeply understand the complexities and challenges of human relationships, and I am passionate about empowering my clients to achieve their goals and improve the quality of their lives.
I use an integrative approach that combines various therapeutic theories and techniques to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs, goals, and preferences. The theories and techniques I draw from include compassion-focused, person-centred, emotionally-focused, Gottman, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, and integrative somatic parts work. As your therapist, I will provide a safe and non-judgmental space where you can share your experiences and feelings without fear of judgment. I will actively listen to you, acknowledge your thoughts and emotions, and help you explore your vulnerabilities and emotions in a compassionate and trusting environment. My commitment to transparency and authenticity means I will provide honest feedback and guidance throughout your therapeutic journey. Therapy is a collaborative process where we determine appropriate therapeutic goals through compassionate inquiry. Once we have treatment targets, interventions are tailored to help you make achievable changes in your life.
It depends on each individual and the concerns they bring to therapy, but with most of my clients, we see a breakthrough within the first five sessions, and sometimes earlier, depending on the complexity of their concerns.
No payment is required upfront; receipts are issued that you can submit to your insurance provider. Please confirm your coverage for a Registered Psychotherapist or Certified Canadian Counsellor.
